ABOUT
Happy Hydrangea was founded in 2023 by Jack van Wingerden, a third generation grower, born and raised in Westland. His grandfather Jan van Wingerden started his own nursery just after the Second World War in 1945. As was common in the old days, Jan started under flat glass which was later expanded into a more modern greenhouse where he grew various vegetables, flowers and grapes. Every day he brought his products to the auction by boat across the canals. He received help from his four sons and five daughters, with whom he built up a thriving family business. The Westland mentality was hardwired into them. Jan's favorite saying was: ‘onverspilde energie versnelt de ouderdom’. Which translates into unused energy accelerates old age. All four of Jan van Wingerden's sons continued the agricultural business and each started their own company.
Son Ted van Wingerden, father of Jack, started in 1984 at the Middel Broekweg location in Honselersdijk with his wife Jolande van Wingerden-Heskes. Respect for nature and people has always been an important pillar for Ted and Jolande. Since the cultivation of cut Hydrangea is one of the most sustainable crops, this was a logical choice to join in 2010. The use of energy and nutrients, for example, is low, making it a sustainable crop. The saying: ´kennie, beurt toch’ is Ted's favorite saying and is Westland dialect for prepare for any scenario, because even things that seem impossible can happen.
With all that experience and wisdom combined is what makes Happy Hydrangea today. Jack van Wingerden started for himself at the current location in Bleiswijk. As the 'happy owner', quality is of paramount importance. At Happy Hydrangea, we provide 'happy flowers' through flowers that are grown as sustainably as possible and of high quality. With our beautiful flowers, which symbolize gratitude and sincere feelings, we hope to create 'happy people' all over the world. This is our greatest strength and goal from owner Jack; to put a smile on every customer's face.

CARE
Enjoy your Hydrangea flowers longer with these tips
-
Fill a clean vase with water and cut flower food.
-
Remove the bottom leaves from the stem.
-
Cut 3 cm off the stem and repeat every 2 or 3 days.
-
Do not place them in direct sunlight, draughty place, near a heater or too close to a fruit bowl.
-
Hydrangeas do not do well in a metal vase or bucket. Always use a glass vase.
Extra tip! Hydrangea drying
Classic Hydrangeas can be dried starting in October.
Is the flower no longer absorbing water and are the leaves getting limp? Then remove the leaves from the flower stems and after flowering, hang the Hydrangeas upside down in a warm and dry place until they have dried completely. This way you can enjoy your dried Hydrangea flower for months to come.
